Cambodia Pledges to Share WTO Accession Insight

Phnom Penh: Cambodia has expressed its willingness to share its experience with acceding to the World Trade Organization (WTO) with Arab nations.

This declaration came from Sok Sopheak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, during the 12th China Round Table on WTO Accessions in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, held from February 24 to 25, 2024. The round table, themed "Arab Perspectives on WTO Accessions and the Multilateral Trading System," coincided with the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference.

Sok Sopheak outlined Cambodia's journey to WTO membership, highlighting the economic benefits, challenges, and opportunities it has encountered, including enhanced market access, investment attraction, poverty alleviation, and improvements in living standards. Additionally, he emphasized the significance of technical assistance, capacity building, and adherence to the rule of law within the multilateral trading system.

Cambodia's offer to share its experiences reflects its commitment to supporting other nations' integration into the global trading system, underscoring the importance of cooperation and mutual support in achieving sustainable economic development and resilience.
